The individual preparation of your future expats for the challenges of intercultural communication is an essential part of the assignment process that is covered by our tailor-made training programmes.

The successful reintegration of expatriates assures a clear competitive advantage and knowledge-management for your company!

Each foreign assignment transfer brings challenges that the expatriates and their families need to be prepared for. But the successful reintegration of employees is an equally important part of the foreign assignment process which gives your company important impulses and influences the success of other foreign assignments.

Challenges of reintegration

Returning to the home country can pose major challenges for expats and their families. All of the family members have had formative experiences abroad learning new roles, developing personal skills and assuming the values and norms of the host country. They all return to Germany as changed, more developed individuals, often without being consciously aware of the changes.

But things may also have changed “back home”. Old networks and groups of friends may no longer be around, and reintegration back into the job can also bring unexpected challenges.

All of this can cause enormous stress. It’s not even unusual for returnees to leave the company shortly after repatriation. This costs an organisation the valuable knowledge and experience that returning employees bring back with them.

Support for repatriates and their families

In our repatriation training and coaching sessions we support your former expats and their families in finding their feet again “back home” in both their professional and private lives. We do this by preparing strategies for coping with potential stress factors.

What we achieve with our repatriation training and coaching

  • A constructive approach to the unavoidable “reentry shock”
  • Reflection on and categorization of one’s intercultural experience abroad
  • Awareness training for the newly acquired roles, skills and behaviours abroad and the resulting challenges in Germany
  • Support in the reintegration process
  • Reduction of stress and “returnee burnout”

  Reintegration training

  • Reflection on and categorization of one’s experience abroad
  • Comparison of the host culture and Germany:
    - Self-assessment of participants regarding the cultural dimensions
    - Constructive handling of the resulting differences
     - Integration into one’s individual and intercultural profile
  • What will/could change in the professional and private life in the home country?
  • Managing “repatriate challenges” with supervisors, co-workers, neighbours, and friends
  • Coping with reentry shock
  • Developing personal strategies for the initial period back in Germany

 Reintegration training for families

  • Playfully rediscovering the new roles of the individual family members
  • Identifying strengths and possible weaknesses
  • What are we leaving behind in [….]?
  • What awaits us in Germany/What has changed?
  • Cultural reintegration process
  • Our “new old home”: people, places
  • Plans: (Re)discovering what is familiar and what is new in Germany

Effectively assigning employees to positions abroad is a decisive factor in the success of international companies.

The right preparation for life in the destination country and the appropriate local support are important components of the foreign job assignment process. These factors are often decisive in the ultimate success of a project that is important and costly for the company.

Regardless of whether your foreign assignments send employees to Asia, Europe, Latin America or Africa, our intercultural training courses individually prepare your expats and inpats and their families for their stay abroad.

The objective of the training is to ease the transition into the new cultural environment for transferred employees and their families. The expats receive an insight into the culture and history of the destination country. They are sensitised regarding the culture-related thought and behavioural patterns of the people who live there and they learn to flexibly handle emotional challenges and demanding communication situations.

If spouses/partners and children are accompanying the employee, part of the training is conducted together with the spouses/partners or the entire family. The content and methodology of the preparatory training are adapted to the particular target audience.
